It took my cat a while to figure out what it was. Eventually we tucked in the old shirt he liked to lie in and he calmed down permanently. The heating is adjusted so that it does not overheat. It has temperature setting, timer setting and on/off switch. My only change would be the "always on" setting for the heating pad. I have to check it every 12 hours to make sure it's still on. But my cat loves it. It's outside on my porch and is holding up well so far. It was a bit fiddly to put together, but otherwise great.
