With all the technological security systems these days, most would prefer some sort of alarm to alert you of an open door or window, but they are very effective at protecting children. No, they probably won't be strong enough to stop an intruder, but they're great at deterring toddlers from opening windows and sliding doors. An adult and older child would have no problem pinching the sides of the lock to unbolt it, while younger children with less dexterity would hold back. Placing the lock above the child's reach is another way these locks help keep the little ones away.
