I got it for my kid because it was her birthday. She had a shelf full of an unidentified Chinese brand whose name I won't even try to pronounce (it sounded something like "G*vno")). I didn't pick, I didn't compare, I just looked at the SRS-XB31 and knew it was the one I wanted; I've had it for two years now and it's great. The column's hue was quite appealing to me. It's the same shade as my daughter's Xperia 10 II, which she loves. The speaker's volume surprised me, given its diminutive size. We stayed for 18.5 kilometres after checking in and that was plenty of time. Like most Sony products, the sound is rich and full, with a strong emphasis on "Bass," and remarkably free of distortion, even at high volumes. Although the highs are underrepresented in the factory presets, an equalization can be used to compensate and provide the most transparent sound possible for such a small device. Because of this column's resistance to water, my daughter frequently reads it while swimming near our backyard pool. The strap is adjustable and can be fastened in a number of positions around the column. The clasp allows you to fasten it to your belt loop or a pair of pants without using your hands. The plastic seems to be rubberized, so it's comfortable to grasp and won't leave fingerprints, and the whole feel is one of soft luxury. It appears that up to five of these speakers may be linked together and to a single device, so you can create a full stereo setup if you so like. You may also use the speakerphone feature as a hands-free option, which is great if you need to answer a call but don't want to get your hands dirty. My overall impression is that it is a worthwhile investment due to its small size, sleek design, punchy bass, and useful features. My vote is yes!
