Review on 2-Pack Katzco Kneeling Mats - 15 X 12.5 Inch Foam Knee Pads For Gardening, Exercise, Baby Bathing And More by Tony Trotter

Follows the trend (that's not a good thing)

Based on the photos, description, and reviews, these appeared to be decent quality pads however when you actually get the chance to physically inspect them you discover otherwise. There are many of these knee pads for sale on ebay and I spent quite some time searching for a quality pad similar to the one I bought about ten years ago. I was disappointed with my choice of this once it arrived. The problem is the density of the foam. It compresses much too easily and loses it shape. There were also imperfections in the surfaces that look like indentations in the foam. For anyone that has not owned a better quality knee pad, these may be acceptable because they have nothing of higher quality to compare it to hence the positive reviews by some. Flimsy and cheaply made is how I would categorize these pads knowing what a quality pad should be.There is a disturbing trend from the sellers/manufacturers of these type of products that suffer from low quality and this seller follows that trend. Shortly after I placed my order, I received an email from the seller imploring me to contact them should I have any issues with the quality of their product and also explaining that they've been having quality control issues. It's never good to hear a seller apologizing for the quality of the product before you've even received it so I was not happy to get that email. It is however a sign of the times with the inferiority of so many products in the marketplace in this day and age as companies have developed strategies in attempts to influence customer reviews of their products. What I have noticed over the years is that online sellers/manufacturers are more than happy to refund your purchase price quickly and quietly in the hope that you will not leave a negative review. In essence what they are actually doing is paying you off hoping that you will keep quiet about your bad experience with their product. This is an extremely common business practice that has been adopted by numerous companies over the years so I have to assume it is cheaper to refund the customer then it is to produce high-quality products. Online reviews are so critical today that companies have developed strategies to minimize negative reviews and this strategy is one that, at least to me, is blatantly obvious. Of course you will never get them to admit that this is an actual company policy as they defend the practice as being one that compensates buyers that are unhappy and therefore it is good customer service on their part. I don't agree with that premise unless it is for the occasional quality control issue and not a clearly designed business practice. I have observed this pattern play out over the years from a number of companies and it is definitely a marked trend that has been adopted by many. Unfortunately, I think for the most part it is an effective policy because for someone who purchased an item who then receives a refund of their purchase price, the end result is they got the item for free and for most people that in and of itself is enough to satisfy them despite the inferior quality of the item itself. I do not subscribe to that theory however. I MUCH rather prefer that the product that I purchase be of the high quality that I desire rather then settle for a lesser quality item that cost me nothing only to have to repurchase the product shortly thereafter because the low quality item failed so quickly. It's a very disturbing and frustrating trend that speaks volumes about the low priority placed on producing high-quality products by today's manufacturers. Selling today is all about the price point which is what moves merchandise not the quality of the merchandise itself. Some people say that "you get what you pay for" and for the most part that is true but in this day and age it is extremely difficult, if not impossible, to find anything of quality across a broad range of products at any price! I would gladly pay more for a higher quality product that I know will last longer but sadly that option is practically non-existent these days for items like this and so many others.

Pros
  • For a child to keel beside his sand box.
Cons
  • To hard to kneel on, hurts my knees
