Review on πŸ’₯ SIIG Thunderbolt 3 Certified Active Cable - 40Gbps 2M Length - 100W Charging/5A/20V - Daisy Chain up to 6 Devices - USB Type C with Thunderbolt Logo Compatibility - 6.6 Ft by Joseph Stone

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A long 40 Gbps cable works as expected.

Cable meets specifications. I paired it with one of them: Targus DOCK220USZ Thunderbolt 3 DV4K Powered Docking Station. The cable delivers 85W of continuous power (I suppose it can output 100W, but my laptop doesn't draw that much) and supports 4K monitors, Gigabit Ethernet. and a few other USB peripherals over the same connection, and they need to have the bandwidth for a second 4k monitor. For those who don't know, there are two types of Thunderbolt 3 cables: active and passive cables. The short explanation is that active cables have additional circuitry at each end of the cable to provide better performance compared to longer cables. Passive cables have no additional circuitry, but are still capable of 40 Gbps if the cable is short (1.5 feet or less). If you only want 20 Gbps, you can probably get by with a longer passive cable. Active cables cost more because of this extra circuitry. This SIIG cable is an active cable and is priced accordingly. If, like me, you need a longer cable that can carry all 40Gbps, this cable is for you.
