I consider myself a music lover. I'm pretty picky about sound quality and have pricier sets. I'm not saying this to brag, just to give my opinion on this product. So if I'm a bit of an audio snob, why did I buy a $130 soundbar in the first place? Well it wasn't for me, it was for my parents. My mom had a hard time hearing dialogue on TV programs and I thought this might help and improve the sound quality through the built in speakers on her Vizio TVs. Spoilers - it worked and I was very impressed! Read on to learn more about why and another review of the SB2821-D6. For starters, the build quality of this soundbar is functional. It's certainly not elegant, but it does the job. It won't win any design awards, but it looks cute on my parents' TV. Both the soundbar and the subwoofer are plastic boxes. The soundbar has a nice cloth material covering the front and top. I'm not a big fan of the silver plastic covering the ends of the soundbar and the top of the subwoofer. I think it looks cheap, I guess to each their own. I would describe the sound of the SB2821-D6 as better than most TV speakers but not amazing. This certainly improves the quality of dialogue and even adds a little more volume to the soundstage. I checked out the noise, but of course I wasn't blown away. It's basically what you'd expect from a 2-inch soundbar. Vizio has put decent drivers in the kit and mapped them well to the appropriate DSP to ensure it's performing its best. he is doing his best. The same applies to the subwoofer – if you want to call it that. It's about a 6" cube with a 4" driver. Subwoofer, but I'm not sure what the correct term is. It will add lower frequencies to your sound, but that's about all I can say about it. I don't think it hits much below 65Hz at 85dB. Which brings me to my next point regarding audio: the soundbar starts to choke at higher volumes. About 8 feet from the SB2821-D6, it started to break down at about 82 dB. If you're sitting farther and need more volume, consider something else. The amp in this unit just can't get very loud without breaking. I read that the soundbar only has a 5w amp. If that's the case, then he's doing fine with what he's got, but his weaknesses quickly reveal themselves when pushed around. Nonetheless, my parents enjoy the SB2821-D6 and it meets their needs. This improved dialogue clarity and increased volume compared to their TV speakers. For them, this is a great idea! So I would buy and/or use the SB2821-D6. Maybe for a bedroom or a guest room, but no more. That's still saying something considering how picky I am when it comes to sound. When used correctly, it earns my seal of approval. Should I buy SB2821-D6? Does it depend on what you are looking for? Need something that improves the sound quality compared to TV speakers? Then this soundbar will get the job done. If you're looking for room-filling, immersive sound that will shake your skull, look no further. You will be very disappointed.
