I almost gave them up based on some of the other reviews but was pleasantly surprised at how well they work. The screw mechanism is what it is - make sure you balance the length between all the links and it will work the way you want it to. I wet the belt and then stretched out a pair of men's 36 inch waist pants - left them overnight - and it worked great. Almost too perfect. I just wish they were a little looser, but probably stretched them out a good inch plus. My advice is not to overtighten if you just need a little extra width. You can always repeat if necessary.
