This torch, which was delivered without butane, was perfectly fine when filled with butane. However, filling with butane was rather uncomfortable. I bought butane cans from Target because I figured there wouldn't be a problem. When I tried to insert the tip of the glass into the burner it didn't fit. The problem is that the bottom of the torch is not compatible with traditional butane refills due to its unusual shape. I finally went to Ace Hardware and asked the maintenance staff to provide me with another brand of butane to make sure I wasn't wasting any more money. It worked. I'm posting the brand I bought so you know what works. Bottom line: make sure this thing is filled with butane before you need to use it - don't be like me running around town trying to figure out how to fill up a flashlight when you really need it. I give the flashlight four stars because it works great - the refilling issue is so tricky and I'm not sure if the flashlight or an incompatible can is to blame.
