Review on Curtain Grommets - 8 Pack, Pewter, 1.56 Inch by Kristen Simpson

The best do-it-yourself carry-out for home use!

Love it! Love it! Love it! Thank you Dritz! They are so easy to use that a child of 3 can do it. I designed a fabric shower curtain for an RV bathroom in flamingo color. I couldn't find a small shower curtain in the color I wanted. The bathroom is decorated in turquoise pink with a pink flamingo motif. I found sheer polyester curtains at IKEA that were cut to size and folded at the top so you can grab the thicker fabric (you don't want the fabric to be too thin) and pull them on. Unbelievable! When folding fabric, you want a medium thickness, not a thick canvas. These are plastic grommets, not metal, so they are very difficult to attach to the tarpaulin IF BENT TOO THICK. Make canvas fabric thinner, fold it 1 or 2 times. For a veil or medium-weight cotton, 3 additions are enough. Fold the curtain, sew the line of the top edge. Using chalk, draw a horizontal center line bisecting the top to use as a guide. Lay the curtain on the floor or table with the back side facing you and the good side facing the table. Place a sleeve at each end and in the middle. Place the grommets between these marker grommets for symmetry. Mark the center of the eyelet with a vertical chalk line crossing the center line. Usually 6-8 inch spacing is suitable for small curtains. Use spacing that suits large curtains, or look online if you want to get technical. My RV is a dollhouse so everything is smaller and sleeker. Use the clear plastic template included in each package to draw a circle where the bushing will be installed. Your middle chalk line is very helpful at this stage to keep them evenly aligned. Use a pair of small 4 inch embroidery scissors, curved, to cut a hole in the fabric. The hole in the template is exactly the size of the sleeve, so don't worry! I used these scissors for my work - http://www.amazon.com/Gingher-Curved-Embroidery-Scissors-01-005273/dp/B000UU4O20 much cheaper at Revain than the $45 I paid at my local sewing store have. These curved scissors are very useful in all sewing jobs so no money is wasted. I made the cut fabric a little rough so it won't wear out over time and is very durable. Place the good half of the grommet (the raised rings on the inside) on the good side of your curtain and the bad side of the grommet (with the teeth inside and a hole for a screwdriver) on the bad side of your curtain. Connect. Did! If at any point you need to open the bushings, use a flathead screwdriver in the hole on the bad side of the bushing to pry it open slightly. Rinse thoroughly in cold or warm water or by hand. Washing machine without agitator, only front loading drum machine. There is no dryer! Hang to dry. You don't want damaged or melted plastic in the dryer. Note. This is the best you can get in the large do-it-yourself eyelet category. You cannot make metal bushings of this size yourself as you need a special and very expensive hand press with a metal die that is the size of the bushing. If you invest in them, you can make any size metal bushing at home. But they are not sold as DIY kits and are much more difficult to make. I wholeheartedly recommend these grommets for all home applications. Gaskets are inexpensive and can be replaced at any time. Much more economical solution. I was not paid to write this review, even though it sounds like an advertisement. I can make everything with my own hands and I did a lot of research before using them.
