I have nothing to add to the description of other reviews. It's compact, holds a medium-sized bath towel, heats up a bit unevenly, but is still pleasantly cool in the morning. We didn't notice the smell of plastic. Our heated towel rail stopped working after 4 months. The heat indicator will illuminate to indicate the unit is heating/heating, but the heating element will not turn on. I did not find any information about self-repair. It would be nice if it lasted longer, but at a final price of $20 per month you'll have to wait until there's some competition before replacing it. We live outside the lower 48 so it's not worth spending the money to send it somewhere for repairs - when an independent repair center can be found. The mechanism cannot be that complex, so the unreliability is very annoying.
