I thought it was a thin piece of chipboard but was pleasantly surprised to find out it was a solid piece of wood. It only took me three minutes to attach the legs and I placed my 55 inch TV on top and was able to watch TV with my soundbar placed under the stand. No sagging, scratches or anything else. I'm so impressed I'll probably get one for my computer monitor.
