Not bad sometimes you want to scratch it a little better but I can see it's dangerous so I understand why they are the way they are. Telescoping feels a little rough at times, like metal rubbing gritty on metal, but that doesn't stop him from using it. I gave one to my husband and kept the other for myself, so I don't know about quality control. They look strong and hold up. I would buy again.
