I originally bought them for backpacking. When I got home I had to fix the roof before a hurricane hit. I used the one you see in the photo to attach a piece of rope around the top of my roof to act as a lifeline in case I slip. Because I'm not very comfortable at altitude, I left the carabiner where it was after almost a year of boarding up the windows above. I live in Florida so the rope and carabiner have been exposed to high winds, rain, lots of sun and humidity. Last time my dad was on the roof fixing a leak and removing the carabiner and rope. Yes I know it's aircraft grade aluminum but the carbine still looks like new. Absolutely no signs of weathering, the threads and the spring mechanism work perfectly. If the need arose I would definitely buy them again but I have a feeling they will last forever so I probably won't need them. As a warning, it's definitely not recommended to use them like I did on my roof so don't do it, but the fact is I'm very impressed with how they've held up.
