Existing rain shower head needs replacing and needs more water flow. The flow restrictor removal instructions were simple and effective. (You will need a screwdriver, drywall screw and pliers to make this easier). I get 3.1 GPM with the shower valve fully open, to match my water heater. If your shower doesn't have separate temperature and flow valves, you might want to try a flow restrictor before removing it, as 3 GPM is a lot of water. Since this shower head has fewer jets than most rain shower heads, the water jet is more like a traditional shower head in strength but still quite wide at 8 inches in diameter. The head has a ball joint and can be easily rotated if you want to steer the jet. Comes with a roll of tape which in our case was necessary to prevent leakage. For us it was the perfect compromise between a rain shower and a conventional shower head.
