Stinks but the price is right

I have about 400 DVDs. I've just started moving to thin 7mm cases. I read a few sketchy reviews on here so I only grabbed 1 box of these to get started just to test them out. First impressions were ok, there were 2 broken cases out of 100 which wasn't too bad compared to some other reviewers here. The first thing I noticed was the smell, they seriously stink. I've bought a cheap hard plastic tool basket in the past that had the same smell and ended up in the trash. I've had the drawers for a few days now and the smell is starting to dissipate, now it's confined to the closed shelves themselves. I've just picked up 2 more boxes, 1 regular and 1 2 disc DVD (the need for this is me completely out of my mind). Overall I think I'm happy enough with them that I've ordered again. Maybe the next ones won't outgas as much. Here's a tip for those crazy enough to take on this challenge. Get a Fiskars SureCut paper cutter. It's less than $15 and it was a life saver. You will need to shave both the front and back of the case covers by 1/8" - 3/32". I divide the difference and make it so that the title print is centered on the spine. The SureCut trimmer was a champ, can't imagine doing it with scissors, it would take forever and a day! I got replacement blades for it, but I've looked through 98 DVDs (196 cuts) and there is no difference in sharpness at all, I probably won't even need replacements. Happy DVD collecting, try not to go crazy! They take up a lot less space and look great, and well worth the effort.
