Great Sound in Portable Audio & Video

I bought this speaker system for two reasons: the sound quality and the fact that the iPod is completely enclosed. I could never understand why so many systems are designed so that the iPod hangs dangerously on the front, is easily knocked over, and the buttons are difficult to press with one hand. Sound Quality: I've compared this to around 12 other speakers, not counting the much more expensive Klipsch and Bose systems, it clearly outperformed in terms of sound quality. The bass is not only strong, but also clear. Many other systems have strong bass, but it is dull or too thick. The clear sound of this system allows you to play it in the background and still have a conversation easily. The sound is also well tolerated. Even at low volume, a good range can still be heard from afar. It also works loud enough for my purposes - loud enough to hear in the shower (you're in the shower, not the speaker system! :-) It works great outdoors when connected to a projector and watching movies. Speakers tend to be very directional, especially in the high ranges. Speakers sound best when they're pointed straight at you - moving them out of the way will lose some clarity. There are two things I really don't like: the volume controls and the default volume when it's on. The volume controls are push buttons, you have to press them with effort - you can't adjust them quickly and it's inconvenient. This becomes a bigger problem as the volume drops to a VERY loud level when you turn the speakers off and on again. You need to pause the iPod, turn on the speakers, press the volume down button a few times, then pause the iPod again and hope you get the volume right. This is very annoying. The system is fairly portable - a simple rounded-corner rectangle that's easy to pick up and move around, especially with the included backpack. It's a bit heavier than some systems, especially with 4C batteries inside. I use an iPod nano with it and the dial was very easy to adapt to the nano. Nano is easy to get on and off. I really like how secure and solid it is in the system - great protection from little hands and fingers running around my house. You can plug the iPod USB cable into the back of the system to sync it to the speakers, but for some reason iTunes doesn't recognize the iPod until I plug it in directly. I think it should work - I still have to play with it a bit. A treble/bass setting would be nice - using the pod's EQ setting isn't that convenient, but it works well enough. A remote control would be nice too, but for the price I can't complain.
