Constantly faking Bluetooth connection when docking, turning off and charging

I prefer earbuds that sit in the ear without the rubber tips covering the ear canal. This is one of three headphones I've reviewed in the $30-$40 range. In terms of sound quality and features, they're on par with the best I've tried, but I ended up having to force my phone to forget the Bluetooth connection. Most headphones will turn off when docked and seek a new connection if you remove even one of them. The auto-off function is very practical when charging, docking or storing. I've found that these headphones disconnect when I first pair them and reconnect when I remove them. However, they also randomly reconnect to my phone every 20-30 minutes when I'm sitting (off) in the charging dock and anywhere within Bluetooth range. It's just annoying when you're streaming to another Bluetooth speaker just for fun. However, it could take control of my regular Bluetooth headset used for mid-sentence business calls. And I lost audio or cut off mid-sentence assisting while fumbling to switch the Bluetooth connection back to my intended headset. I couldn't figure out how to prevent accidental "piracy" of these headphones while charging in the case. I also couldn't figure out how to give them a lower "Queue Priority" for other devices so those headphones don't drop my connection. So I had to remove the Bluetooth connection from my phones and stop using them. They might work if they were your only wireless source. They even did this to my Car Connection when I was with them and I can't fight my phone while driving. Therefore, despite the good design, good sound quality and decent battery life, I cannot recommend it. Plugging in "Kill Switch" while docking/charging on my iPhone XR doesn't work and they randomly reconnect when I turn off when I'm within 20-40 feet of them. I suspect the error has something to do with the dock charging from 98% to 100%. I suspect this puts the earbuds in mode to avoid overcharging. and they are tricked into believing they have been removed when the current stops. I agree with other reviewers that everything else about them is positive and I would give them 5 stars except for the unpredictable pickup of my sound. However, this usability issue is a deal killer for me.

Pros
  • Sturdy build
Cons
  • No insurance
