This little bowl is fantastic. I kept my butter in a traditional butter dish on the counter so it was soft enough to spread on bread without tearing. The problem was that within a few days the wand would develop a darker "skin" that looked stale. I would just cut off the oxidized layer to find untouched oil underneath. But what a waste! This little bowl eliminates the oxidation that makes your oil stale. It works by placing a stick of softened butter in a bowl. Then add about half an inch of tap water to the pitcher. The water acts as a barrier that prevents oxygen from coming into contact with the oil. The water just rolls off the oil when it's ready to drink. A few days later I still haven't discovered that my oil hasn't aged yet. I just change the water every day or so. The lid prevents the water from evaporating too quickly. It's a big hit in our house and we're officially fans of it. I would give ten stars if I could. Those who suffer from mold should only use salted butter. For those with oil drips, I think it's not soft enough and sticks too much to the sides of the bowls. Or there are air bubbles between the oil and the bowl. If that still doesn't fix your oil, buy an oil squeeze bottle. (hiccup) problem solved.
