We've had a dog door for years but we live in a desert area so we've always been bothered by something other than our dogs coming through the door (never happened). Our dogs also ran out the door to bark at anything that went by. We decided to remove the dog door but didn't want our dogs to scratch the new door. We thought we'd give it a try. I was worried about getting her to use it, but it turned out to be very easy. We started by placing a treat on the alarm sensor button. When the dogs took the treat, they rang the doorbell and we opened the door. After they took the treat well, we showed them the doorbell and gave them the treat when they touched the sensor. Every time the bell rang, we opened the door. We then installed doorbell sensors inside and outside. Every time we released her, we rang the bell. It only took them about a week to put it to good use. Now they use it with no problem. We are very happy with the product. The ringer is loud enough to hear it (adjustable signal noise) almost anywhere in our house. We received an additional speaker for the device. The first is plugged in and the extra one is battery operated so you can place it anywhere. So far the battery life is good (works about 2 months without changing). There are no real complaints about the system. We would recommend this to anyone who doesn't want a dog door.
