They last 2-3 months with reasonable use before it magically happens.
The adhesive that holds the coating over the foam will completely dissolve over time. They will last around 2-3 months with reasonable use before magically splitting in two and the foam popping out. It's just a matter of the poor sealant used in the manufacture. From a comfort perspective, that's good. This significantly reduces fatigue.
