I bought this bed for my 72 year old father to use when camping. The wear and tear had taken its toll on his back, so he needed more than just a camp bed. This item worked great. The bed was strong enough. The person using it weighs 150 pounds and it's holding up well. The bed itself is relatively comfortable without a mattress. There are no places where the steering wheel cuts into your back. It is made from a dense piece of material supported by springs along the edges that connect it to the frame. The mattress itself is about 3 inches thick and I would rate it as medium firm.
