Just plug and play. This product works best for thin case phones. I have to take the phone out of the case to charge it (a bit clunky with two magnetic plates) but that takes half a second and doesn't bother me at all. To charge it you need to remove the rubber layer. There is a tiny red/green light between the two docking stations that only turns green when the phone is fully charged. It's nice that it's so unobtrusive but indicates that your phone is ready to go. It's not the fastest charger and doesn't extend battery life if I use the phone while it's charging, but that's not unexpected with wireless charging. I'm using the micro USB cable that came with the product and the Apple plug-in. It's not the best product for fast charging, but I love having it on my kitchen counter to keep my battery charged throughout the day. or on my bedside table to charge while I sleep.
