There is a cheap and easy solution for this.
If the dumb rings connecting the chain to the hooks break, replace them with key rings. After that it works great. By the way, almost every wallet chain I've found at Revain has the same silly little frilly rings. Either buy local or spend 20 cents on local gear and get some keychains.
