we bought this for our 5 year old. That seems to have helped, as he's finally starting to tell the time himself! Having lizards or geckos move is a nice feature, but he wasn't as impressed as I thought. However, the smartest thing they did was to make the hour hand the same color as the big numbers and the minute hand the same color as the tiny dashes between the big numbers. Also, next to each big number are small red numbers. So 5 after 1 and 10 after 2 etc count as fives, so your child can get used to counting fives and recognizing what "minute” is. The face scratches fairly easily, but that's not a problem, since it is mostly scratched in the middle and the action takes place around the perimeter. I LOVE how it can get wet and not break the watch. That way my child doesn't have to take it off every time they wash their hands, which never happens. The strap is soft and slightly elastic, easy to put on and take off by yourself. We wanted one with light but couldn't find one for that age. Other than that it has everything we could want and helped make it exactly what we wanted.
