Review on πŸ›©οΈ Daron Sky Fighter Flight String by Robert Jaskolski

Very good plane and excellent value for money!

A very well made, accurate model of the P-51 Mustang that looks great when zoomed in circle. When I found this I wanted to buy two for my grandson's bedroom but then found that the ceiling fans in their rooms left no room for them. So I bought one and hung it from the ceiling in my home office. I had some trouble finding the ability to do it right, but part of it was because I got it wrong to begin with. It only works one way I think due to engine torque, much like engine torque causes a real prop plane to spin. Looking down from the ceiling, the rotation should be clockwise. Then you have to make it run at the right speed and direction so that it keeps the right direction without spinning. Many reviews point out this problem. I almost took a star off for this but I thought it was otherwise a very high quality model - not cheap plastic junk - I've kept it at 5 stars, especially after figuring out how to fix this shortcoming as I describe it will . . After replacing the battery once, I couldn't get it to work properly. Maybe the next battery weighed differently and affected the balance of the plane. I do not know. But as an engineer who has always been interested in airplanes, I found that the rudder wasn't big enough to keep the plane in flight, making it difficult to take off properly. I suspect this is why the kite's tail is attached to it - to add extra drag to hold the tail. But I made a simple change that allows me to run it from the first time every time. I tested my theory that the wheel wasn't big enough by putting a 2" x 2" sticky note on the wheel and it worked great right away. But it looked very tacky so I replaced the note with a piece of clear tape rolled on itself leaving about a half inch exposed to attach to the rudder and then cut it to the same height as the rudder . which roughly doubled the size of the oar. See image. When it flies you can't even notice the sharp ribbon and it launches correctly every time even if I strangle it badly. In fact, it flies better now - before it seemed to fly a little sideways, like gliding in circles, which looked unnatural. With my modification of the steering wheel, it flies "straight ahead". I've since bought 4 packs of batteries and run it for hours a day. Each 2000mAh battery lasts about 3 hours. I'm getting older, not growing up. I would highly recommend this plane to kids or airplane enthusiasts like me and if you are having trouble getting it to fly properly try raising the rudder with tape like I did to get it perfect. I will buy a second one to take to work once this virus is over.
