I came up with this concept for holding cords on an ironing board. If I had developed it myself, it would be just like this product. So when I came across this one, I bought it. It consists of a slip-on reel with a line guide and a small weight. You attach the pulley to the back of the board, thread the power cord through the rail, and attach the weight. So as you move the iron back and forth across the board, the weight keeps the extra cord pulled in as it slides up and down the back of the board. There are a few tricks to make it work well. First you need to determine where to attach the weight based on how much cord you need. Move the iron to the farthest point on the board from the roller and attach a weight to the string where it exits the back of the roller guide. This way you have enough cord to move the iron all over the board. And the best way to attach the load is to make a loop on the cord so that the handles of the load are inside the loop and the free ends cross over in the jaws of the load. So he doesn't jump out. The clip is not strong enough to hold on its own. The item is well made and serves its purpose. And it can actually wear out the cable less than whip antenna cable holders. But I found that if you moved the iron back and forth off the roller, the cord still lay across the board, and later realized it would be better if the cord was hung overhead instead. I have been using this product for a long time and it works reliably and I cannot complain about its quality. But I found I couldn't put an aerosol can or starch jar on the back of the board without risking knocking it over. As such, the reel/weight concept simply isn't as comfortable and smooth to use as spring-loaded car antenna-style cable holders. I ended up ordering one of these. With the antenna-style starch can behind the "antenna" on the back of the board, it's less likely to hit the line and fall off. If you have never used Starch on a board then this product will most likely work just fine.
