My shepherd mix is a huge chicken every thunderstorm. I've tried so many calming treats, essential oils, calming mantles and messed up the TV. Everything did not work or only a few times. I give it to her early in the day when I think she's going to be stressed or when I know a big storm is coming. If she finishes early enough and can plan ahead, she is perfectly calm and even goes to bed most of the time. If not administered early enough, it still helps, but not as well. Sometimes she eats them alone or opens them by sprinkling food. She weighs about 80 pounds, I don't give her daily and depending on how bad I feel I give her 1 to 3 pills on a bad day.
