First, let me digress on the fact that I don't like reviews of this flash that say 'great for beginners'. Hardly. This is a manual flash and few beginners will have the patience or know how to learn how to use it. But once you do, these flashes are for you. The YN-560 III has its limitations, particularly in terms of battery life and recharge time (get an external power supply and you won't regret it), but I consider it a solid, dependable pro flash. It's also very reliable. Like many others, I saw the $80 price tag and wondered how good it could be for $80. Well the lack of TTL brings the price down but I have to say the quality and reliability of these flashes is amazing. Now I have three of them and use them all as slaves triggered by Yongnuo RF603 triggers. These flashes contain wireless receivers designed to work with the RF603, eliminating the need for additional receivers attached to your flash. They communicate automatically up to 100 feet away. Using this feature has made my life as a semi-professional shooter phenomenally easier. However, since they're all portable devices, you'll have to work harder to set them up for your shots, but that's part of the art of photography. I've always shot with flash in manual mode because I shoot everything with my camera in manual mode. For the price, there's nothing better than this 560 III. They haven't let me down yet, and while you can comfortably shoot in manual mode, they're the most cost-effective means of creating professional-quality images at a fraction of the cost of prestigious devices.
