Review on Weber Rapidfire 7416 Chimney Starter by Edgardo Ennis

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Well made and easy to handle when full of hot coals.

We have a yellow 2000's Simpsons Weber Kettle (with blue handles and Homer graphics) that we use with this Chimney Starter. Trying to figure out how much charcoal to use - 1/2 full, 3/4 full, or brim full? I've tried starting it with just paper, paper plus white starter dice, and just dice. One paper was not enough as a full run required a second fill of paper. A few dice weren't enough either. The cubes and paper almost always worked, although it still didn't fully start when I filled it all the way with charcoal, so I tilted it a bit and added more newspaper. So have an extra newspaper handy. How do you deal with it when it's full of hot coals? Light. Haven't scalded them yet, haven't spilled them - sometimes I use Weber's indirect cooking method, so I have to put the chimney between two indirect metal vanes to start, and then when it's done, lift it with both handles and pour half with on one side and half on the other. Light. there are no spatters either. When this part is done, I grab it by the long handle and set it aside somewhere to cool. The heat shield is a bit discolored after a few uses, but it's metallic and works, so I don't mind.

Pros
  • Chimney Starter lights charcoal quickly and evenly
Cons
  • Lightly dented
