Review on Readdle Documents by Don Merritt

Revainrating 1 out of 5

There are many apps out there that focus on specific document types.

A lot of the apps are built around specific types of documents such as notes, spreadsheets, presentations etc. They try to make a big leap forward and cover other types of documents as well (e.g. code snippets, blog posts,.txt files) but it doesn't seem to go deep enough to become truly useful across multiple types of documents. It's nice that they've focused on iWork but still haven't created a universal way to edit and read all types of documents. Some tools work better than others. Evernote has done a great job making it possible to get rid of clutter, but there isn't yet a good solution for editing text or pictures in iWork or Microsoft Office documents. I think Apple will need to give us something along the lines of Google Docs if they want to really compete against services like Dropbox. I wish the app had a little less UI overhead when you're just trying to read or write plain text.

Pros
  • It could be very helpful for people who do a lot of writing
  • The service also has excellent security controls and privacy options
  • It also lets you save them locally if you need to access them offline.
Cons
  • It's a pretty straightforward installation process, so I recommend you give it a shot.
  • While I understand that the company has limited resources, it's an area where I think Apple needs to focus its efforts.
  • It might not sound like a big deal, but it can be frustrating when you're trying to view something that is smaller than the rest of the document.
