They work on the broad side. But my 7 year old with narrow feet doesn't have any major problems. In the US, he wears 2.5-inch boys' shoes. We bought a 2/3 and it still has extra room for a half size to grow in this shoe. So the size seems to correspond to the larger number. They've been out in the rain, in the garden, on the beach, in the pool and everywhere and they still look brand new. They are also easy to clean. No blisters like other brands. We can definitely recommend this clog.
