Before ordering, I measured my son's head and received a large one (he measured 54cm). He's 2.5 years old and has a larger than average head size (family trait on my side) so I figured I'd be safer with a bigger one. The hat fits a little loose and is larger than I would choose if purchased in a store, where both sizes could be tried on. I was going to return it due to the smaller size, but after finally fitting it to my son I decided the larger size would be better to cover most of his head on the back and sides as winter approaches. The beanie itself is great and I love the taupe color with an orange tint as it goes well with most 'boy' colored jackets. I will definitely buy in a different color but next time I will take a smaller size.
