They are so cute with red and blue trimmings - we bought them for camp to wear with rainbow socks on crazy sock day. My daughter is almost 8 years old and we started going up to a 9/10 which is still a bit big for her. I'd say that's how they fit - they could probably go smaller but I'm afraid they will be too tight around the waist. I would say they are probably true to size.

- Poor quality fabric: cotton material does not stand up to frequent washing and wearing, causing the shorts to wear out quickly.
