I have had two of these coats - one from a local pet store and one from Revane. Both have the same manufacturer, same tags, same fabric. Also, the velcro is attached to both in a potentially awkward way. The "hard" side of the Velcro - with hooks to grab the felt - faces the dog's skin when fastening. If the fit around the waist is too tight - and especially if your dog has sensitive or thin skin - you will wince. Every time you find the velcro straps rubbing against his stomach or catching in his fur. But if the straps on your dog are long enough to overlap slightly, you'll probably never notice. The coat I bought for my older Beagle did actually scratch the ribs once, but more careful tying solved the problem. . (By stretching it across my back I was able to line up the velcro without a rough part touching it.) For the price and for my purposes (short walks in relatively mild climates) I like the coat as long as the sizing is right. It is easy to put on and take off and washes very well. Chest size matters most: make sure you don't choose one that's too small for your dog and you'll be fine. it is a coat. For an average sized beagle (18-30 pounds) I would measure carefully to see if a large one would be better. Simplicity. (Their chest isn't barrel shaped like a beagle so the cut is completely different despite being almost the same weight.) If I had to buy this coat again I would buy a medium size due to the great care taken due to the velcro issue but we're lucky and the little one works fine.
