Takes a little getting used to but it's a better option than an inflatable sleeping pad

I am a woman in my late 30s, a typical side sleeper, and suffer from some mild chronic back problems. My husband wanted to try camping more often recently and hates inflatable mattresses. He wanted only a sleeping bag for himself but there is no way that would suffice for me. This seemed like a good alternative to inflatable sleeping pads, which are notoriously bad for your back and often deflate through the night or puncture easily.Since we are the sort of campers who drive to camp sites and can afford to load up our car with gear, the bulkiness of this mattress pad did not deter me. While it's not very thick (for a mattress), it definitely puffed up more after unrolling it from the package and letting it sit out for a day. It is certainly not portable enough for campers who might have to hike with all their belongings.Overall, I feel it is more comfortable and a better option than an inflatable sleeping pad. The material is quite firm and there is no chance of it deflating as you sleep. I weigh about 105 to 110 lbs and my body did not touch the ground through this memory foam pad throughout the night. Unsure about much heavier persons. Since it is still more of a pad than a real mattress, it is not the most ideal for side sleepers like myself. But while camping, I suppose we are meant to be roughing it out a little and it seems odd to be complaining about ideal sleeping positions as if I were expecting hotel level comfort. The ridges seemed like an interesting concept to me when I ordered this and I imagined them to feel therapeutic. In reality, they take a lot to get used to and I did not find them entirely comfortable. I wish the pad was flat and not ridged, as I feel it would have made a more pleasant sleeping experience.Still, this has been the best option for me so far out of all I have tried in the past and it did not significantly aggravate my back, so I will be sticking with it unless I find something far superior in comfort.

Pros
  • Lightweight and easy to pack, making it ideal for backpacking adventures
Cons
  • May not provide enough cushioning for individuals who require a thicker camping mattress
