I've had the purifier for a little over a month and use it almost exclusively in automatic mode with the external sensor about 20 feet away. In automatic mode and with the UV filter switched off, this essentially corresponds to the "whisper” setting. And doesn't make enough noise to cause problems when watching TV, making phone calls, etc. It switches to a higher speed when we're cooking something on high heat, which I was hoping it would work, and then it's loud enough to let the TV pause the TV until it calms down. But sometimes it goes into turbo mode and indicates that the air quality is really bad even if nothing has changed in the room. In automatic mode, it usually runs at a higher speed for about 10-15 minutes and then returns to a lower speed. I usually only turn on UV filter mode when vacuuming or brushing my long haired dog. I bought the air purifier because we moved into a house that has not been lived in since it was built and the floors are dark wood. We did a thorough cleaning, but the floors and furniture still seemed to be collecting dust even after vacuuming. The main area in which it is located is approximately 12 x 15 feet, but there is also an open floor plan with steps to the front door and wide access to the kitchen. In the main area of 12x15, floors and furniture are much less dusty because we have an air purifier. And the air quality improves in the open space up to the door by the amount of circulating air, but of course an air purifier can do little with dust and fur until now. I can tell how long the filters last but so far I am very happy with the air purifier.
