My first cup of coffee from this mug was lukewarm almost immediately. For my second cup, I filled it with hot tap water for a few minutes and then poured it out and filled it with coffee. Success! I'm drinking from it right now and it's the perfect temperature. I don't like brewing hot coffee, so a little heat loss is preferable to me. I'm also quite sensitive to smells and tastes. I was concerned that this mug would have a seal or finish that would be noticeable on the palate. (My grandmother had some wooden salad bowls in the '80s that stank! I've been skeptical of wooden kitchen and serving utensils ever since.) But I'm happy to report that this tumbler is made with food-grade, non-toxic oil, like described by the seller. So no noticeable change in taste and only a slight, not unpleasant odor when consumed with very hot liquid. Definitely a goalkeeper!
