Review on 🌬️ Rowenta Pure Connect Air Purifier: Efficient Medium-Sized White Device by Rob Misra

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good quality, high-tech with formaldehyde filter.

Rowenta is highly regarded for its high quality laundry care products (iron, steam iron etc) and this air purifier lives up to its reputation but is not without its flaws. The air purifier has a simple, discreet design with touch controls conveniently located on the top. It uses a fan that pulls air in through the back, passes it through a filter, and expels clean air from the top. It is equipped with air quality sensors that detect both particles/allergens and VOC gases. Colored LED indicators on the front of the unit indicate air quality; Blue is excellent, green is slightly soiled, yellow is moderately soiled, red is heavily soiled. The fan speed is automatically adjusted depending on the air quality, but can also be adjusted manually. It's very quiet on the lowest setting, but makes some noise in turbo mode (no more than a household fan set to high speed). The filters are easily accessible and replaceable by removing the back panel, and the pre-filter is washable/reusable, extending the life of the activated carbon/HEPA filter. A few things set this air purifier apart from most of the competition. First, it has a companion app that lets you control the air purifier and monitor air quality from anywhere. The app also adds the ability to create schedules and track filter lifetimes. Second, in addition to a pre-filter, activated carbon, and HEPA filter, it includes a NanoCaptur+ filter that "captures and destroys harmful formaldehyde.” However, this block is not without disadvantages. First of all, it is not clear for which room size this air purifier is recommended. The packaging says "140 m2", which is over 1500 m². ft., but Revain's listing states that all performance data is based on a 10 m2 (just over 100 sq. ft.) room. This is a key difference. The exact replacement of the filter and the associated costs are also unclear. The app has a Buy Online link under the Filters tab, but this only leads to a search function on Rowenta's websites. Nothing is displayed when searching for this model. To be honest this is a new product that probably isn't available to the general public just yet, but I think it's important to know the total cost of ownership before investing in a product that will require a lifetime of maintenance. Finally, the application is not complete (again, this is a new product). Some of the "i" (about) buttons bring up a page that says "No Content", just like the FAQ. The good news is that the app will likely improve over time. Overall I think this is a high quality, high tech air purifier with unique formaldehyde filtration. As the cost and availability of the filter is currently unknown and the app still needs some work, this is 4 stars but could potentially be 5 stars.

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Sad packaging
