Owned for 2 years, first wash

I have had this comforter for 2 years now and use it as a duvet cover. I have never had a leak and find it brings me a lot of comfort at night. I've had to remove the duvet for the summer, although any temperature above 80 I prefer a breathable cooling blanket specifically designed for hot sleepers. I've always been nervous about washing it and after some research I decided to try laundry at the laundry. Please note that the manufacturer does NOT recommend machine washing, hand washing options exist. You can fill the tub with water and detergent and stir it by stepping on it with your feet. Then drain the water from the tank and repeat the process twice with clean water (without detergent). Then let dry on a flat surface (do not hang) and turn every 30 minutes. I just don't have a flat surface to do it and I'm a bit lazy. I went to the laundry and used an industrial duvet washer, washed with warm water, light soiling and a gentle/delicate cycle - alone, nothing else. I then put it in a large dryer and set it back on delicate for an hour. I was very nervous the whole time but after 30 minutes in the dryer I checked it and found the seams were intact and no leaks - it was also about 90% dry at that point. I recommend using a duvet cover so you don't have to wash this duvet very often. I would never machine wash this either - I would use an industrial washer and dryer for machine wash only. Overall I love this duvet and I think it's a great value. I had torn one of the duvet ties but was able to sew it back on myself. Never had a problem with the structural stitching which impresses me.
