Review on PANASONIC LUMIX GH5 Body, Black Camera: A Powerful Visual Experience by Jnis ubars ᠌

Revainrating 4 out of 5

The right product for me, the price suited me.

I perceive it more like a video camera than a camera. Pictures can be taken, but apparently, they focused on video. Many shooting modes, there is a matrix stabilization. It was because of the stabilization that he took it. Previously, you had to use a gimbal and a tripod, now with this camera there is no need to use them. I took it for shooting videos, including for YouTube. And then I ran into the following problem - this is an absolutely unreliable autofocus. When you shoot a video of yourself, it is very important. And here the focus constantly "breathed" - i. E. constantly walking back and forth, causing distortion in the background. The second drawback associated with the autofocus system is that focus picking does not work correctly and it can be difficult to get into focus correctly with it. In addition, the focus sometimes freezes and does not want to focus. Or it happens that the camera sees a face but for some reason does not focus on it. The second serious drawback applies to the micro 4 3 system - this is the x2 crop factor. And here the main problem for me is to buy a wide-angle lens for an inexpensive price. The most normal wide-angle lens is the Panasonic 7-14 and it costs as much as the carcass itself! There are cheap options through a speedbooster, but these are all crutches. There will be no autofocus, there will be constant freezes and other problems. If you buy a minimum set of optics, you will spend somewhere around 3 carcass prices, which is very expensive. The third drawback of this system and this camera, I consider poor performance in low-light situations and low dynamic range. If you put the light yourself, then this is unlikely to be a problem, but for travel, reportage shooting, this can be difficult. Another such nuance - there is a 1080 video with a frame rate of 180 (VFR) and the quality is disgusting, and all because the picture is saved using line skipping. I do not recommend relying on this mode for commerce. In the end, due to problems with autofocus, I decided to sell this camera and switch to the simplest Sony camera. There is a reliable phase autofocus, a huge selection of inexpensive optics.

Pros
  • Many video shooting modes and different bitrates: - 4K 60fps - 1080 180 fps - video hyperlapse mode - 6K video (no sound) - there are V-Log, HLG profiles that increase the dynamic range of the camera. - 4:2:2 in 10 bits; and much more. Excellent matrix stabilization; Shoots video in H265 (HLG mode), which allows you to significantly save space on your hard drive (only 4k 24 or 25fps) 4K shoots without crop Convenient menu, many different buttons that can be easily reassigned.
Cons
  • Autofocus is bottom. Better than my previous G7, but still bad. He cannot be trusted. I installed the latest firmware, but it did not improve the situation much. Focus peaking is contrasting, it seemed to me not convenient, there were misses. Heavy and big. The same G9 with the same characteristics is lighter and smaller. In terms of size and weight, this Panasonic is like a SLR. Poor quality SlowMotion (180fps) The only shooting mode in the H265 is HLG. Crop factor 2 is often inconvenient and imposes many restrictions. A lot of noise in lowlight (you can set an ico3200 limit and use fast optics) Low dynamic range.
