When it comes time to increase the size of your desktop hard drive, often the answer is to clone your old hard drive and replace it with a new, high-capacity hard drive substitute. Like all HD enclosures on the market, this enclosure allows you to clone an old drive to a new one (using cloning software). Once this is done and the new cloned drive is installed on the desktop, the enclosure will serve as an external storage and backup device using the original drive. With long-term use, quality becomes important. This device protects the drive well and its aluminum case dissipates heat better than cheap plastic cases and cheaper metal cases. This is important when operating the closed drive for long periods of time, as required for external backup devices. Includes power adapter, USB cable and stand (as shown in the photo). The power switch is located on the back of the device. At first I wondered why it needs to be on the back of the device and not visible when used as a permanent external backup drive, then it occurred to me that curious little fingers would eventually turn the device on and off. Why not place it somewhere easily accessible but less visible? Nice looking, well made device that is built to last.
