I bought a yellow insert to fit in a vintage waxed canvas shoulder bag I already had and converted it to a less conspicuous and less wanted to transform sporty carry-on camera bag. It was possible during a recent trip to Europe. This arrangement protected my three cameras when I was traveling (at airports and on the road) and gave me extra peace of mind that "extra items" such as 35mm film rolls, lens caps, charging cables, lens cleaning handles, etc. got dirty or lost.
