Good keyboard, with some problems

I'll say right away that this is a good keyboard. The mechanical keys are solid and work exactly as they should. It's much easier to use (for me) than Apple's "chiclet-style" keyboards. I definitely recommend this keyboard to anyone looking for a good alternative, albeit with some caveats. When you start your computer and turn on the keyboard, pressing a key (any key) often causes the keyboard to "blink" - the backlight goes out and the keyboard is unresponsive. This only takes a few seconds but can be annoying. As far as I can tell, it's also completely unpredictable. 2. In an (undoubtedly successful) attempt to make the keyboard compact, there is no physical separation between key areas of the keyboard, particularly the arrow keys and number pad. I try not to look at the keyboard while typing, but I really don't have a choice, especially when using the arrow keys. I'm too likely pressing the wrong key or typing "1", "0" or "control". It wastes a lot of time. I gave a useless suggestion to fix the problem: see below.3. The tech support is frankly terrible. I have sent an email regarding the above issues and firmware issues (see below) and an additional request. Both of them gave me purely automatic replies that didn't concern my questions at all. That was outrageous, to say the least. I noticed spacial issues with the arrow keys (in my first email) and offered to buy an extra "5" or "F" or "J" key to replace one of the arrow keys replace - no answer. . There is a website for firmware updates for Keychron keyboards. There is a warning at the top of this page: "Notice. If everything works with your keyboard. Do not update firmware. There's a chance this could damage your keyboard." Really?!?! I assume this goes along with the old advice "if it ain't broke don't fix it" but doesn't inspire confidence. Also you will need to disable the Mac OS Gatekeeper security feature to apply the update Needless to say I didn't risk the (dubious at best) process given the dubious nature of Keychron's tech support Overall a good keyboard but with a few issues that one... might be known to potential users.

Pros
  • Not cheap, but decent
Cons
  • It's hard to remember, but it was
