Mostly true to size. What I didn't like about them is that they look more like real shorts with pockets and are double lined throughout, not just the crotch. It was a lot of fabric for what I was looking for and didn't feel like it would be comfortable for swimming. Even trying it on, the fabric crumpled in an unflattering way. I could only imagine what they would look like if they got wet and knew it wasn't for me.
