If you want to leave the candles on so they can be turned on and off with the remote control, then use the remote control to turn off the candles. These candles will turn themselves back on if they just happen to be tapped. This was quite frustrating for my husband and I because we used them to line the island with a bunch of lanterns we got from the hobby lobby. We turned off the candles with the remote control so a friend could turn them on when we were ready, so we didn't have to drain the batteries. Unfortunately, even if you tap them lightly, they turn back on. It was frustrating when after the ceremony we rearranged the candles and put them in a huge plastic container and then all the candles turned on automatically without our asking.
