I've been looking for larger placemats for my 4 year old, that wouldn't go sliding off the table. I like these because the backing prevents it from sliding too much (although the top is still a traditional slippery material). I'm not sure if they are actually dishwasher safe, but I try to put as much as possible in the dishwasher, so I've been washing these that way and the only reason I'm giving 4 instead of 5 stars is because they curl a little now (it hasn't been too bad yet, they kind of have uncurled themselves). Anyway, the most important thing is the educational value. My daughter has been working on days of the week/months in school and this gets her even more excited for it!
