Comica XLR Lavalier Mic Lavalier mics are ideal for capturing the sound of talent without showing the mic on screen or mounting a boom. However, one of the reasons I've personally chosen to avoid them is that they typically use a 3.5mm jack, meaning you have to plug it into your phone or mobile recorder. I have a high quality XLR audio interface called the Audient ID14 and always prefer to run mics through it for its incredibly low noise and high quality preamps; something I couldn't do with most lavalier mics without buying a 3.5mm to XLR converter. Comica approached me and offered to send me two of their XLR, phantom powered, CVM-V02O2 lav mics for review. This microphone eliminates the need to carry around a battery-powered portable recorder with a 3.5mm jack, and instead allows direct connection to any audio interface like a standard condenser microphone. I could finally use a lavalier mic that plugged directly into my audio interface and recorded straight into Adobe Audition; This allows for easy syncing with my videos as I set up a single room. This was a real life saver for me because in the past every time I wanted to use a lavalier mic I had to connect to the phone and email myself the file which resulted in me rarely using lavalier mics. microphones used. All of my sponsored videos for AnyTrans were recorded with a microphone, of which I'll play an example here, raised to the level of this video: As you've probably heard yourself, the sound quality is really great for a $37 microphone, delivers a clear, rather warm sound. The mic sounds a little thinner than I would like, but my reference point is the Blue Spark in a soundproof enclosure. For the best sound, I would recommend putting on some monitoring headphones and trying to place the mic in different spots on the shirt until you find the spot that sounds best to you. Because the microphone is omnidirectional, you'll need to record in a very quiet place if you don't want background noise in your video. I have to stress this because a lot of people have the notion that they can just use lava on talents and don't expect them to pick up everything that's in the environment. This isn't a big deal if you're aiming for a natural sounding production in your production, but always remember that when using a sensitive condenser mic like this, the recording space should always be considered. Also, expect some level of running noise with this or any other lavalier mic, unless you buy a special sticky material designed to eliminate that noise. I will provide links to some of these tapes in the description. In fact, at this price point, you'd be hard pressed to find a better sounding mic that's also XLR. Another really great feature of this mic is its ability to plug directly into a camera with XLR connectors like the Canon C100, an ideal setup for documentary recording. Keep in mind that the mic's chord is only about 6 feet long, so you'll likely need a wide-angle lens for interviews. In addition, it can also be connected to a high quality XLR recorder such as the Zoom H5 for optimal performance and ease of use; when you are ready to sync the audio in the message. Also, this mic delivers clean enough sound quality to serve as an extra mic for a podcast guest or similar, and can be easily hidden in clothing. Good to know I now have a high quality talking head video recording option that works well for my internal recording. Many thanks to Comica for sending these mics over for review, but I want to make it clear that I was in no way paid to make this video and all opinions expressed here are my own. I wholeheartedly recommend this mic to anyone looking for a mic. pure XLR sound, less than $50. I know it's been a long time since regular uploads, but I think I'm finally back folks. Happy New Year everyone and excited to see where this channel will go in 2018. Until next time, Christian from Erickson Films, I subscribe!
