Doesn't work most of the time

I bought 3 of these units thinking I could leave one in each spot I needed but they didn't work very reliably. I'd say it actually works when I first plug it in, about 10% of the time. I reverted to my much older USB2 reader as it works 100% of the time but is slower. Also, this USB3 reader is about twice as fast as a USB2 reader, which is nowhere near as fast as it should be for a USB3 device.
