It's amazing how far sock technology has come in recent years. The variable design of these socks allows the compression bands to be placed where they are needed for a good fit, while the socks are looser elsewhere. As a result, you have socks that stay in place without feeling too tight. Similarly, socks are cushioned where you need them while being thin and breathable elsewhere. Overall, these socks feel lighter than some of the other athletic socks I've tested, but cushioning in just the right places provided ample comfort on my test hikes, which took place on the beach, dirt trails, and gravel trails. I generally prefer mid-length (ankle length) crew socks, but I didn't notice any extra length in them because they stayed high during my hikes (that's the main reason I usually avoid crew socks). The price is good, around four and a half dollars for a pair (note: the picture on the product page can be a bit misleading as it shows six socks you might see as six pairs, but the product description says exactly what it says three pairs).
