Great roof vent cover replacement/upgrade

Our 2006 Toyhauler plastic roof vent covers wore out and you could see it didn't take long to put your finger in. them with very little effort. On the last hike, the front was missing when we arrived at our destination!? The top just broke off and fell off. So she did her research and ordered 3 to replace all the vents. To install, you need to unscrew 4 screws that secure the plastic cover of the "firmwareโ€ inside. Then unscrew the hand crank. Then loosen two more screws holding the shielded center section. Then loosen the 2 screws holding the raise/lower crank mechanism. Now, from the roof of the trailer, slide the lever up (or down) through the slot to remove it from the top panel. Then bend open one of the pinched ends of the thin metal hinge of the plastic air vent cover. move it Crush one end of the new lid hinge and slide it open. Squash the 2nd end to secure it. Then insert the lever into the slot on the cover and go back into the trailer and replace any parts removed. It seems like a lot to do, but mostly just a screwdriver and needle nose pliers are used. Sometimes it looks great. They feel incredibly thick and stronger than the OEM versions. The material filters more light than the originals due to its greater thickness. Overall very very happy with them and glad I decided to replace all three. The first one took me about 15 minutes to figure out what to do. Due to the first learning curve, it only took ten minutes to complete the 2nd and 3rd tasks. When I did this again, I went through all three interior vents and removed everything first, then went to the roof and installed the covers. Then connect all the parts back inside. It will probably take around 20 minutes to make three. I hope this helps you a bit when you get your covers. Be careful on the roof, especially when it's wet!

Pros
  • High test scores for support and durability
Cons
  • Not as thick as other options
